A BLF community design built by Lumintop, the FW3A packs three Cree XP-L HI emitters and a full 18650 into a body just 92.5mm long and around 53g empty — one of the shortest 18650 torches ever made. 2800 lumens through a Carclo TIR optic gives a smooth, ring-free flood reaching about 200 metres, and Anduril firmware provides smooth ramping, stepped modes, momentary, muggle mode, lockout and a deep set of extras. Battery not included — requires an unprotected high-drain 18650 (max 66mm) and an external charger. Aluminium body, IPX8 equivalent.

The Lumintop FW3A is not a normal torch, and it is worth understanding why before buying one. It was designed by the BLF and TLF flashlight forums — enthusiasts, not a marketing department — and built by Lumintop to their specification. The brief was simple and uncompromising: the shortest possible 18650 triple-emitter light, with the best firmware available, and no concessions.
The result is 92.5mm long with a 25.5mm head and around 53g empty. That is barely longer than an average 18350 cell, and shorter than most AA torches — matte TIR optic spreads that into a smooth, even flood with a gentle hotspot, reaching about 200 metres at 10,000 candela. There is no reflector and no defined beam ring — just a clean wall of light, which is what a triple is for.
The firmware is the real draw. Anduril, written by ToyKeeper and distributed free under the GPL, is the most capable interface in any production torch. By default the FW3A uses smooth ramping — hold the switch and brightness slides continuously from moonlight to turbo, stopping exactly where you want rather than at whatever step a manufacturer chose. If you prefer discrete levels, stepped ramping is there. So are momentary mode, electronic lockout, and muggle mode — a deliberately simplified, output-limited interface for handing the torch to someone who has not read the manual.
Beyond the main modes sit battery check, sunset timer, beacon, tactical strobe, party strobe, bike flasher, candlelight and lightning storm. The FET+7+1 driver delivers genuine sub-lumen moonlight at the bottom of the ramp and direct-drive turbo at the top, with low parasitic drain when off. Everything is controlled from a single electronic tail switch with no mechanical click.
Two things to know before ordering. First, no battery is included — the FW3A takes one 18650 cell, maximum 66mm long, and it does not have onboard charging, so you will need a cell and an external charger. Second, and more important, it needs an unprotected high-drain 18650. The body was made as short as physically possible, so protected cells will not fit, and a low-drain cell cannot supply the current the direct-drive turbo demands. A high-amp unprotected cell such as a Samsung 30Q is the intended pairing.
The body is aluminium with a smooth, tapered profile, knurled only at the head and tail, and carries a pocket clip. Ingress protection is equivalent to IPX8. A range of accessories exists for the FW3A platform — 18350 and 18500 short tubes to shrink it further, tactical rings, stainless bezels and a holster.
This is an enthusiast’s and collector’s light. The Anduril interface rewards learning it and frustrates anyone who wants one button and three modes, and it is not a tactical torch — there is no instant-on discipline to it. For the right owner, it remains one of the most admired EDC lights ever produced.
