PRODUCT INFO

The Imalent SR16 is Imalent’s answer to a specific problem: how to get searchlight reach and searchlight output out of something you can actually carry. The body is roughly the size of a drink can at 158mm long and 109mm across the head, yet it houses 16 CREE XHP50.3 HI LEDs producing a maximum of 55,000 lumens and a beam that reaches 1715 metres at 736,000 candela.

Emitter and Beam

The XHP50.3 HI is one of the best throw-oriented emitters available, and Imalent has aligned all sixteen of them in shallow smooth aluminium reflectors behind a toughened ultra-clear mineral lens with anti-reflective coating. The result is a beam that does two things at once — it reaches well over a kilometre, and it floods a genuinely wide area around the hotspot.

For search work that combination matters more than throw alone, because you can sweep distant ground and still see what is immediately in front of you.

Output Levels

Six output levels run from Turbo at 55,000 lumens, which steps down to a sustained 11,000 lumens after 42 seconds and holds it for 50 minutes, through High (23,000lm), Middle II (11,000lm for 52 minutes), Middle I (4,200lm for 2 hours), Middle Low (2,800lm for 3 hours) and Low (1,200lm for 7 hours).

A 50-lumen moonlight mode sits outside the main sequence, activated by a triple press, and runs for 98 hours. Strobe is available for signalling.

A high-efficiency constant current circuit holds output steady as the cells drain rather than letting brightness fade with voltage, so the mid and low levels stay consistent right through the discharge. A built-in thermal control module monitors temperature and adjusts output automatically during sustained high-level use, which is what makes the stepped Turbo behaviour predictable instead of abrupt.

Battery and Charging

Power comes from a built-in Li-ion pack of four 21700 cells (4000mAh each), non-removable, recharged through the USB-C port at the tail in approximately 2 hours, using the mains adapter and Type-C cable supplied in the box. Battery level indicators show remaining charge. A four-press lock function disables the switch for transport, with the indicator flashing three times to confirm.

Handle and Build

The removable metal handle carries the side switch and doubles as an anti-roll feature, and the flat tail cap lets the SR16 tail-stand as an area light. The body is aerospace-grade aluminium alloy with a Type III hard-anodised finish, rated IP56 against dust and water spray and tested to 0.5 metres of impact resistance. It weighs 1370g with its batteries fitted (1130g without).

Use Cases / Ideal For

  • Search and rescue — 1715-metre reach with wide surrounding coverage lets a single operator sweep distant ground and near ground at the same time
  • Police and law enforcement — 55,000-lumen Turbo for immediate area control, with a lock function for safe transport in a vehicle or kit bag
  • SES and emergency services — 11,000 lumens sustained for 52 minutes covers a realistic operational window, and moonlight mode runs 98 hours between charges
  • Mining and underground work — the wide beam fills large spaces rather than punching a narrow hole through them; note this is general industrial lighting, not certified intrinsically safe
  • Property and perimeter security — light up paddocks, yards, and boundaries well beyond the range of any handheld torch
  • Camping and 4WD touring — tail-stands as an area light, and the low levels stretch the pack across multiple nights
