The Nitecore NU21 weighs 44 grams complete with headband — light enough to forget you are wearing it — yet delivers 360 lumens over 58 metres through a unibody lens with over 94% light transmission for a soft, even beam with no harsh hotspot. Four white levels run from High (2 hours) down to Ultralow at 37 hours, with SOS and Beacon at full output and a separate red LED giving 26 hours of night-vision-safe light. Dual buttons differ by shape and feel for operation in the dark, the built-in 500mAh battery charges over USB-C in 1.5 hours, and the headband is reflective and glow-in-the-dark. IP66.

PRODUCT INFO

The NU21 is built around one goal: a headlamp light enough that you forget you are wearing it. It weighs 44 grams — including the bracket and headband — and measures 60.1 × 33 × 25.5mm. For trail running, fastpacking or anything where head weight becomes fatigue after a few hours, that figure matters more than lumens.

Output is 360 lumens with a 58-metre beam at 840 candela, through a unibody optical lens system with faceted surfaces and over 94% light transmission. The result is a uniform, soft beam rather than a tight hotspot with a dark ring around it — which is what you want when running, because a defined edge makes uneven ground harder to read, not easier.

Four white levels cover the range properly: High 360lm (2 hours), Mid 170lm (3.5 hours), Low 60lm (8 hours) and Ultralow 6lm (37 hours). SOS and Location Beacon both run at the full 360 lumens for emergency signalling.

A separate red LED gives 5 lumens constant for 26 hours and a 10-lumen slow flash. Red preserves dark-adapted vision, making it the right choice for map reading, stargazing, wildlife watching, moving around a camp at night, or working near someone who needs their night vision intact. The flashing mode doubles as a long-duration rear marker.

The dual-button interface uses two buttons different in both shape and texture, so you can tell them apart by feel alone — with gloves, in the dark, without stopping. One handles power and brightness, the other switches between white and red and checks the battery. A lockout mode prevents accidental activation in a pack.

Power is a built-in 500mAh Li-ion battery charged over USB-C in about an hour and a half, with four power indicators showing remaining charge. Nitecore make a fair point about the environmental maths: over its life cycle a rechargeable NU21 avoids discarding 700 or more AAA batteries compared with a disposable-cell headlamp. Advanced Temperature Regulation adjusts output according to working and ambient temperature to protect the LED.

The housing is durable PC material chosen for impact and low-temperature resistance, rated IP66 against heavy rain and dust and tested to 1 metre of impact resistance. The headband is reflective and glow-in-the-dark — useful both for being seen by traffic and for finding the headlamp inside a dark tent.
