The Imalent GR36 is 96.5mm long and weighs 120g with its battery — about two-thirds the size of a phone and lighter than one. Inside that are three separate light sources, which is what makes it more useful than its size suggests. It is not a torch with a UV mode bolted on; it is three tools that happen to share a body.
The cool white main beam does the heavy lifting: a high-efficiency small-core emitter behind a precision aluminium reflector, producing 2800 lumens and a 486-metre throw at roughly 59,000 candela. The small die and matched reflector give a focused beam that holds its shape at distance rather than washing out, while staying comfortable to look along at close range.
The warm white auxiliary light runs at 120 lumens with CRI above 80. This is the one most people end up using daily. Reading a label, checking a wiring diagram, working in a roof space or reading in a tent — a gentler, warmer, colour-accurate light is far easier on the eyes than 2800 lumens of cool white bouncing back off a surface 300mm away.
The 365nm UV light at 630mW is a genuine inspection source rather than a novelty. 365nm is the wavelength that matters — it produces far less visible violet bleed than the cheaper 395nm emitters, so fluorescence stands out clearly instead of being swamped. That makes it usable for counterfeit and document verification, mould and stain detection, refrigerant and fluid leak tracing, pet stains, and mineral identification.
Control runs through two separate dials — a dedicated on/off dial and a rotary dial that selects the light source. Keeping power and source selection on different controls means you can switch between white, warm and UV without ever cycling through off. Between them they give six brightness levels from Moonlight to Turbo (20–2800 lumens) plus Strobe and SOS. A double press jumps straight to Turbo from anywhere, and a memory mode returns to your last-used level. Both dials are operable with gloves on, which a small side button is not.
A constant-current circuit holds brightness steady across the discharge rather than letting it fade, and thermal control adjusts output automatically to prevent overheating. A low-battery red flash alert warns before the built-in 1900mAh battery runs out, which gives up to 41 hours in Eco. USB-C Power Delivery fast charging refills it in about 1.5 hours.
For hands-free work there is both a pocket clip and a strong magnetic tail base — clip it to a cap brim, pack strap or belt, or stick it to any steel surface. The body is aerospace-grade aluminium with a Type III hard-anodised matte finish, rated IP56 against rain and dust and tested to 1 metre of impact resistance.
